Patron Saints for Pregnancy and Childbirth

Catholic birth meditation imagery

The communion of saints is one of Catholicism's greatest gifts. When you're pregnant or preparing for birth, you don't pray alone—an army of holy men and women stand ready to intercede. You can also deepen this heavenly support through prayers and blessings for your unborn baby and Marian consecration during pregnancy.

St. Gerard Majella — Patron of Expectant Mothers

Feast Day: October 16

St. Gerard Majella (1726-1755) was a Redemptorist lay brother whose intercession for pregnant women became legendary. After visiting a family, Gerard accidentally left his handkerchief behind. When the daughter ran to return it, Gerard said, "Keep it. You'll need it one day."
